Family Background

Muhammad Hammad lakhvi was born in the 1965 and his father Mohy-ud-Din Lakhvi was a very respected and high knowledge scholar and he was the selected the constituent assembly of Pakistan. Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi belongs to a family of the great scholars in Pakistan.

His father in law and uncle were from the senior leaders of the Ahl e hadith Jammat. Shaykh Mu’eenudin Lakhvi who was the father in law of Dr Muhammad Hammad lakhvi was elected 3 times in the national assembly and during the government of General Zia ul Haq he did a lot of work in the making of the law for the blood money and testimony.

The Grandfather of Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi Shaykh Muhammad Ali Lakhvi also was a very great scholar of Hadith who taught Hadith in Masjid Nabawi for a long time.The father of Shaykh Muhammad Ali Lakhvi’s father who is Shaykh Muhiudin AbdurRahman Lakhvi also was a respected scholar.

Shaykh Muhiudin AbdurRahman Lakhvi’s father was Hafiz Muhammad ibn Barakallah Lakhvi who was a very famous scholar of Hadith and Quran. He was also a well known student of Mian Nazeer Husayn Dehlwi.

Education Journey

Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi completed his MA in Islamic Studies in 1988 from the University of Punjab Lahore where he got the top position and got a gold medal. He also ranked first in his MA Arabic in 1990 from the University of Punjab lahore.

He completed his PhD from the University of Punjab in 2001 and then did the post-doctoral research at the University of Glasgow in the UK in 2007.

Additionally Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi obtained an LLB degree in Law from the University of Punjab Lahore in 2008.

Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi studied Hadith at the Madrasah of his family Jamia Muhammadia Okara where he got Ijazah in Hadith.

Teaching initiatives

Dr Hammad Lakhvi worked as a lecturer in Islamic Studies at Government College Okara from 1990 to October 1996 and taught students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels.

He also worked as a lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Punjab Lahore where he did proper research for MA, MPhil and PhD students Between October 1996 and February 2005.

He also did post-doctoral research and gave lectures as a Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Islam and Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Glasgow UK from November 2006 to October 2007.

He also got the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Punjab Lahore and continued to guide research for PhD, MPhil and MA students From 2005 to March 2010.

From March 2010 to August 2014 Dr Hammad Lakhvi was promoted to Associate Professor in the same department and continued his research.

Since August 2014 he has been working as a Professor at the Institute of Islamic Studies University of Punjab Lahore.

Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi got the position of Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at the University of Punjab Lahore.

Since 2009 Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi has worked at the Khateeb of Masjid Mubarak in a historic Ahl e Hadith mosque in Lahore. This mosque was established in 1919 and it is the third oldest Ahl e Hadith mosque in the city and was part of the Anjuman Ahle Hadith which was founded in 1909.  Dr Hammad Lakhvi has been delivering Tafsir of the Quran on Paigham TV for many years.
