Brahim Boushaki (1912–1997)
Brahim Boushaki was a respected Islamic teacher and Sufi leader from Algeria. He was born in 1912 in the village of Soumâa, near the town of Thénia, which is about 53 kilometers east of Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. He dedicated his life to teaching Islam and helping people understand the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Early Life and Family

Brahim was born into a family with a strong Islamic background. His father, Ali Boushaki, was a respected religious leader, and his mother, Zohra Ishak Boushaki, supported his early education. He had siblings, including Abderrahmane Boushaki and M'Hamed Boushaki.   From a young age, Brahim was immersed in a spiritual environment. He began his education at the Zawiyet Sidi Boushaki, a religious school founded by his ancestors. There, he memorized the Quran and learned about Islamic teachings.

Spiritual Journey

After completing his initial studies, Brahim continued his education at the Zawiya of Sidi Boumerdassi in the village of Ouled Boumerdès. He deepened his knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and Sufi practices.   In 1926, he joined his father at the Al-Fath Mosque in Thénia, where he began his career as an imam. Teaching and Contributions

Brahim Boushaki was dedicated to teaching and spreading Islamic knowledge. He served in various mosques, including the Safir Mosque in Algiers, where he worked alongside other prominent imams. He emphasized the importance of understanding the Quran and living a life guided by Islamic principles.   He also played a role in the Algerian War of Independence, supporting the movement through his sermons and community engagement. His commitment to both faith and country made him a respected figure in Algerian society.

Brahim was known for his humility and dedication to his community. He lived a simple life, focusing on his religious duties and helping others. Later Years and Passing

In the 1990s, due to rising tensions and threats from extremist groups, Brahim relocated to Kouba, a suburb of Algiers. Despite the challenges, he continued his religious work until his passing in 1997 at the age of 85.
