Family Background of Mufti Taqi usmani

The name of the father of Mufti Taqi Usmani is Mufti Muhammad Shafi who was a respected Islamic scholar. Mufti Taqi Usmani has 4 brothers and he is the youngest one. Taqi Usmani came from a family of teachers. His grandfather Muhammad Yasin learned Persian at Darul Uloom Deoband and was one of its first students. His father Mufti Muhammad Shafi also studied and taught at Deoband and later became the chief mufti.

Early life and education

Muhammad Taqi Usmani was born on 5 October 1943 in Deoband town in Saharanpur district British India.

In 1948 when Taqi Usmani was just 4 years old his family came to Karachi Pakistan and there were no religious schools nearby then he started his early education at home. Then he came to Darul Uloom Karachi and it was founded by his father in 1950. He did his studies completing the Alimiyyah program in 1959 and specialising in Islamic law and issuing fatwa in 1961 and became a Mufti.

Taqi Usmani did not stop there and in 1964 he also got a Bachelor degree in economics and politics from the University of Karachi and also got a law degree in 1967. In 1970 he completed his Master degree in Arabic language from the University of Punjab.

He also did work for the Centre for Islamic Economics in Pakistan from 1991 and also works as the Chairman of the International Shariah Standard Council under the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions and he is also a permanent member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in Jeddah and the Islamic Fiqh Academy in Makkah.

He is also the Chairman of the Board at the American International Theism University in the USA and a member of the Unified Shariah Board of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah.

2022: He got awarded with an honorary doctorate in Islamic Law and Jurisprudence by the American International Theism University.

2019: He also received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz for public service from the President of Pakistan.

2019: He Ranked on 1 in The 500 Most Influential Muslims for 2020 by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre.

2017: He got ranked the 2 most influential figures in global Islamic financial services by the Global Islamic Finance Report.

2017: He got a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Islamic Finance Excellence Awards at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Lahore.

2016: He also got an award with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Islamic Finance Forum of South Asia .
