Surah Anfal is the 8th chapter of the Quran and It has 75 verses and is called a Madani Surah because it was revealed after Prophet Hazrat Muhammad SAW moved to Madina. The name Al-Anfal comes from the first verse which talks about the spoils of war. The Surah explains how the spoils of war should be handled and Allah says they belong to Him and His Messenger and this surah teaches us to follow commands of Allah in such matters.

Sa`id bin Jubair: I asked Ibn `Abbas regarding Surat-al-Anfal. He said it was revealed in connection with the Battle of Badr.
Sahih Bukhari Hadith No 4882
Narrated Sa`id bin Jubair: I asked Ibn `Abbas about Surah Al-Tauba, and he said, Surat Al-Tauba? It is exposure (of all the evils of the infidels and the hypocrites). And it continued revealing (that oft-repeated expression): '...and of them ...and of them.' till they started thinking that none would be left unmentioned therein. I said, What about) Surat Al-Anfal? He replied, Surat Al-Anfal was revealed in connection with the Badr Battle. I said, (What about) Surah Al-Hashr? He replied, It was revealed in connection with Bani an-Nadir.
